Editor,

The Siang is one of the largest and fastest rivers in the world, flowing in the one of the most mega earthquake prone regions of the world. So, building a conventional dam is too risky for overall environment and the people living nearby.

The main issue is China's water-bomb (sudden release of accumulated water), as water diversion by China is not an issue for Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. Moreover, China's Medog dam on the Siang River's upstream is a run-of-river project and not a conventional dam which holds large volume of water. So, the water-bomb won't be very destructive. If we build high raised embankment structures along both the banks of the Siang River in vulnerable areas like Geku, Pasighat and Assam, we can easily deal with the problem of China's water-bomb. The NHPC can fit their turbines from Pasighat up to Tuting-Geling border along both the banks of the Siang River to generate power, instead of building a conventional dam which will directly block the Siang and surely be the biggest environmental disaster of India.

So, I request all our political leaders, policymakers, bureaucrats, engineers, scientists, innovators, designers, etc, to work on the above said infrastructure which will be a unique, first-of-its-kind hydro project. Let's try something new and innovative.
