ZIRO, 12 Aug: In order to make births and deaths registration services faster and more convenient, online registration counters with dedicated computer system have been set up at the SDO office and Community Health Centre (CHC) in Old Ziro in Lower Subansiri district.

On Wednesday, deputy commissioner Oli Perme chaired a coordination meeting with officials from departments of Panchayati Raj, health, women and child development, and education, focusing on establishing a reliable network of designated field notifiers to ensure that no birth or death goes unrecorded in the district this year.

Officials also discussed aligning circle-wise jurisdictions across departments and linking newborn registration with Aadhaar enrolment to reduce extra trips for parents.

Assistant director of economics and statistics Chiging Tamu reminded residents that registering births and deaths is a legal requirement under the Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969 and a critical safeguard for every family.

"A birth certificate is essential throughout a child's life for school admissions, passports, voter cards, and official identity proofs. Similarly, a death certificate is crucial for surviving family members to settle property inheritance, process insurance claims, or access social security benefits," Tamu said. (DIPRO)
