CHONGKHAM, 14 Jun: As part of the Viksit Bharat Sankalp outreach programme,commemorating 12 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in office, Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein undertook an extensive tour across the Chongkham Assembly constituency in Namsai district to review developmental initiatives and engage with various sections of society on Saturday.
During the tour, Mein interacted with eminent cultural personality Saratham Namchoom, recipient of the prestigious Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar. He lauded Namchoom’s contributions towards the promotion and preservation of the rich cultural heritage of the Tai Khamti community, and emphasised the importance of safeguarding indigenous traditions for future generations.
The DCM also held discussions with members of the Tai Khamti Heritage and Literature Society, headed by its general secretary Kalingna Mannoi. The interaction focused on the society’s ongoing efforts in manuscript transcription, digitisation, preservation and translation, as well as documentation of traditional knowledge systems. Discussions also highlighted opportunities under the Gyan Bharatam Mission, which seeks to preserve and promote India’s rich knowledge traditions.
He also visited the Chongkham Heritage Homestay, a successful enterprise established under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Swavalamban Yojana (DDUSY), and interacted with stakeholders regarding its contribution to tourism, entrepreneurship and livelihood generation.
He also met senior citizens, GBs, women’s groups, self-help groups and beneficiaries of various government schemes, including the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) and Ujala Yojana, and reviewed the impact of these initiatives at the grassroots level.
Reviewing developmental works in the constituency, Mein also visited the football stadium construction site in Chongkham and assessed the progress of the ongoing project. He also visited the Government Higher Secondary School in Chongkham, where he interacted with teachers and staff on educational development, academic activities and institutional requirements.
The DCM further visited the weaving centre in Nang Hok Saao, operated by a women-led SHG. Interacting with the members, he appreciated their efforts in promoting traditional weaving while creating sustainable livelihood opportunities and strengthening women-led entrepreneurship.
The outreach programme was joined by BJP Namsai district president Ningroo Ong Maio, district in-charge Kohman Lungphi Ngemu, Chongkham ZPM Mulaseng Namchoom, along with public leaders, community representatives and local residents.
The tour reflected the spirit of the Viksit Bharat Sankalp outreach programme by connecting with citizens, reviewing developmental initiatives and reinforcing the collective vision for an inclusive, empowered and developed India under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi. (DCM’s PR Cell)
