TAWANG, 30 Jul: Tawang Deputy Commissioner Namgyal Angmo directed the Health Department to intensify awareness campaigns and proactively engage with communities to address myths and misinformation surrounding immunisation.
Chairing a District Task Force for Immunisation (DTFI) meeting here on Thursday, the DC emphasised that no eligible beneficiary should be left behind due to misconceptions, and urged health officials to utilise every available community platform to educate the public.
The deputy commissioner further instructed the department to increase the frequency of awareness camps and outreach programmes, particularly in remote villages, to ensure that immunisation services reach every eligible child and beneficiary.
Highlighting the need to strengthen healthcare delivery, she directed the Health Department to prepare a comprehensive assessment of existing human resource and infrastructure gaps across health facilities. She also urged the executing departments to expedite the completion of health infrastructure projects under the Vibrant Villages Programme and other government initiatives to improve access to quality healthcare services.
Expressing concern over the limited number of certified health facilities in the state, she directed the department to prepare a clear roadmap for achieving National Quality Assurance Standards (NQAS) certification for targeted health facilities in the district.
The meeting was attended by District Medical Officer Dr TD Namsa, District Reproductive and Child Health Officer (DRCHO) Dr Rinchin Neema, Urban Development & Housing Department Executive Engineer Phurpa Lamu, DPC (ISSE) Dhondup, medical officers, health & wellness officers, and representatives from various line departments.
The DRCHO delivered a presentation on the district’s current immunisation status. The presentation highlighted the targets assigned by the government and the progress achieved so far, while identifying areas requiring greater focus to ensure universal immunisation coverage.
The DMO in his address stressed the need for collective and coordinated effort to make Tawang the best-performing district in the state in terms of immunisation. He directed all medical officers to present centre-wise performance reports during future DTFI meetings, and encouraged every health facility to take greater ownership and accountability in improving coverage.
The meeting concluded with detailed discussions on various issues concerning health services across the district, with participants deliberating on strategies to strengthen immunisation coverage, improve healthcare infrastructure, and enhance the overall quality of public health services in Tawangdistrict.
