TEZU, 25 Jun: The Lohit district police have registered an FIR at the Wakro police station against office bearers of the All Lohit District Students’ Union (ALDSU) and alleged members of the All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union for allegedly extorting and obstructing construction works of executing agency J Infratech Limited (formerly known as Jandu Construction India Pvt Ltd) for the national highway project under NHIDCL, Package-I (Brahmakund to Kamlang stretch) in Wakro in Lohit district.

According to the complaint filed by the project executing agency, ALDSU general secretary Asitso Minin, along with Anemso Pul, Chow Milling Khangkio, and others unlawfully demanded project-related contracts. When the company refused, the accused allegedly demanded illegal monetary payments and threatened to obstruct the ongoing national highway project, informed Lohit Superintendent of Police Thutan Jamba.

The SP informed that the complaint further alleged that from 16 June onwards, protesters obstructed construction activities at the site, prevented employees and workmen from carrying out their duties, and manhandled personnel who tried to photograph and document the incidents.

“On 23 June, 2026, a group allegedly entered the project site, seized the ignition and operational keys of plant and machinery, blocked access to the equipment, and demanded a substantial sum of money before allowing operations to resume. These actions reportedly brought the strategically important project to a complete standstill, causing significant financial losses and delays,” the SP disclosed.

Reacting promptly to information about the 23 June incident received at around 11:00 pm, senior police officials immediately dispatched a team from the Wakro police station to the site for ground verification and to ascertain facts from company staff and others present. The following day, DSP (HQ) Ojing Lego was deputed to independently assess the situation and conduct a factual inquiry, the SP informed.

Following receipt of the detailed formal written complaint on Thursday evening, a case was registered under relevant provisions of law pertaining to extortion, criminal trespass, criminal intimidation, wrongful restraint, and voluntarily causing hurt.

Investigation has been initiated and evidence collection is underway.
