ITANAGAR, 29 Aug: Rezina Mihu of Arunachal Pradesh has been elected vice chairperson of the Integrated Mountain Initiative (IMI), a national body working on sustainable mountain development across India's Himalayan and mountain states, becoming the first from the state to hold the position.
The results of the IMI governing council election 2026 were announced on Saturday by returning officer Dr Satyadeep S Chhetri, with STS Lepcha of Uttarakhand elected chairperson and Mihu elected vice chairperson for the 2026-29 term.
The IMI works across sustainable development, water security, community empowerment, and policy advocacy for India's mountain regions.
Mihu, whose journey has included serving as secretary of the Sustainable Development Forum of Arunachal, Itanagar, has been described by the organisation as "having grown from a student leader into a national voice for mountain communities," with his election seen as recognition of his work in sustainable mountain development and community empowerment.
