ITANAGAR, 17 Jun:  The North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO) has warned the public that excess water from the Pare reservoir may be released in a controlled manner through the dam’s radial gates during the monsoon and post-monsoon season for safety of the reservoir and uninterrupted power generation.

In an advisory, Taba Gagung, deputy general manager (Tech), hydro structure maintenance & infrastructure division, said that continuous rainfall in the catchment areas of the Pare River may raise the reservoir water level up to 245.15M (MSL), requiring controlled release of water.

Gagung further said that in the event of flash floods or sudden rise in water level, all gates of the dam may be opened at any time to facilitate emergency discharge of excess water and avert any major disaster.

He appealed to the authorities concerned, PRI members and local residents to widely disseminate the advisory among villagers residing in and around the Pare dam reservoir area, as well as those living along the downstream banks of the Pare River and near the Power House.

The public has also been urged not to venture near the reservoir or riverbanks during the monsoon period. Livestock owners have been advised to keep their animals, including mithun, cattle, goats, pigs and others, away from the river to avoid accidents or loss of property.

“Any activity undertaken in violation of the warning may lead to accidents for which the individuals concerned shall be solely responsible,” the advisory said, adding that public support is essential for ensuring safety and welfare during the monsoon season. (DIPRO)
