BASAR, 31 Jul: Residents and other stakeholders from rural areas in Basar and Sago circles of Leparada district were imparted hands-on training on the Solid Waste Management (SWM) Rules, 2026.

The training was aimed at sensitising rural communities and strengthening implementation of scientific and sustainable waste management practices at the village level. The training gave special focus on segregation and management of waste at source.

Leparada ADC Tamo Riba urged all stakeholders to translate the knowledge they gained during the training into “practical action and collective community efforts.” He said effective waste management requires active participation from gram panchayats, government departments and local communities to build cleaner, healthier and more sustainable villages.

Engineers from the Urban Development Department provided detailed presentation on the key provisions of the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2026 and their implementation at the grassroots level. They also highlighted the roles and responsibilities of gram panchayats and village communities in maintaining cleanliness and ensuring proper management and disposal of waste.

During an interactive session, resource persons responded to queries and clarified various practical aspects of waste management raised by the participants.

CO Asunam Perme emphasised the importance of acquiring practical knowledge and adopting proper waste management practices.

The programme was organised under the aegis of the Panchayat, Rural Development and Urban Development Departments at the Leparada DC’s conference hall here on 30 July. (DIPRO)
