PANGIN, 9 Aug: The Pangin block unit of the Kepang Welfare Society (KWS) organised a 'Social service-cum-cleanliness and plantation programme' here in Siang district on Sunday.
The programme also saw the participation of Deputy Commissioner Tayi Taggu and Pangin Circle Officer Duyu Ongku.
As part of the programme, the PHED SE circle office complex was thoroughly cleaned, which was followed by a mass plantation drive within the office premises.
The initiative aimed at promoting cleanliness and environmental conservation in and around Pangin town.
A mass social service was also carried out at the general ground, where sand and gravel were dumped and levelled in the market shed area. The area had earlier been swampy and waterlogged, causing considerable inconvenience to the public, particularly during the rainy season. The levelling work is expected to improve accessibility to the market sheds and provide a cleaner and safer environment for the public.
Similarly, the area near Pangin gangging and the community hall was filled, levelled and cleaned, making it suitable for use as a car parking area, thereby improving the overall utility and cleanliness of the locality.
Speaking on the occasion, KWZ Pangin-Boleng zonal president Tagam Panggam lauded all members of the KWS for taking up the initiative for the welfare of the community.
The deputy commissioner appreciated the efforts of the KWS members and encouraged them to continue undertaking such community-oriented initiatives. He also advised the members to ensure proper care and maintenance of the newly planted saplings, and highlighted the importance of cleanliness in maintaining a healthy environment and safeguarding public health.
CO Ongku also appreciated the initiative and emphasised the importance of maintaining cleanliness in public spaces. She encouraged the KWS to organise more such community welfare programmes in the future. (DIPRO)
