ZIRO, 23 Jun: Community effort to protect local identity and secure regional borders took a major step forward on Tuesday here in Lower Subansiri district.
Bringing together a broad coalition of community elders, student advocates, and local officials, a high-power coordination meeting at the golden jubilee conference hall tackled two of the area’s most deeply felt priorities: ensuring the absolute integrity of Arunachal Pradesh Scheduled Tribe certificates and breathing new strength into the enforcement of the Inner Line Permit system.
Recognising that long-term regional security requires a unified front, the Ziro MLA teamed up directly with the district administration to lead the discussion. Their collective focus will not just be on bureaucratic policy, but on finding practical, fair solutions to safeguard indigenous rights and to properly monitor who enters the district.
What made the meeting truly impactful was the sheer breadth of local representation. Alongside key administrative and law enforcement officers were cultural and social pillars of the region. Representatives from the Tanw Supun Dukun, the Apatani Women Association Ziro, the Apatani Youth Association, and the Apatani Students’ Union spoke passionately on behalf of the public and the younger generation.
Grassroots leadership was equally vital to the conversation; the head gaon bura and various zilla parishad members from surrounding sectors like Niiti, Diibo, Hari, and Tajang actively joined the talks, ensuring that whatever rules are made will be respected and upheld on the ground. Crucial legal and advocacy perspectives were also brought to the table by the Lower Subansiri Bar Association, the ST Bachao Andolan Committee, and local bazaar committees.
This collaborative push marks a refreshing, community-first approach by the district administration – one that relies heavily on local trust and shared responsibility to keep the region’s heritage and laws secure. (DIPRO)
