Editor,

I wish to draw the kind attention of the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) towards certain important aspects of the ongoing Assistant Professor Recruitment process (Advertisement No. 01/2026), dated 22 January, 2026 in the larger interest of academic excellence, fairness, and transparency.

First and foremost, I sincerely appreciate the Commission, under the able leadership of the Hon’ble Chairman-an academician-for its continued efforts in promoting good governance, procedural integrity, and merit-based recruitment in higher education institutions of the state, particularly in Assistant Professor interviews by adopting University Grants Commission guidelines. The commitment towards transparency and standardization is truly commendable.

In this context, I would like to humbly urge the Commission to ensure strict and appropriate adoption of Appendix-II (Table 3B) of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Regulations, 2018, particularly for the purpose of academic score assessment and shortlisting of candidates for interview. A uniform and correct application of UGC norms will further enhance credibility and academic consistency in the selection process.

It is also pertinent to emphasize the importance of maintaining the 1:3 ratio for calling candidates to interview, as indicated in the advertisement. Strict adherence to this ratio will ensure fairness, transparency, and equal opportunity for all eligible applicants, while also maintaining the quality of the selection process.

Moreover, I would like to request the Commission to consider adopting a composite evaluation system for final selection, wherein both screening marks (academic score as per Appendix-II Table 3B) and interview performance are duly considered. Such a system would reflect a balanced assessment of academic merit, teaching aptitude, research competence, and overall suitability for the post of Assistant Professor.

A composite merit-based approach would ensure that final selection reflects both academic excellence and personal competence, thereby strengthening higher education in Arunachal Pradesh. I sincerely appreciate the Commission’s dedicated service and urge it to consider these suggestions in the spirit of fairness, transparency, and academic integrity.

A concerned aspirant
