ITANAGAR, 23 Jun: Governor KT Parnaik said thatthe state government has assured him that a thorough inquiry will be conducted into the NERIST crisis, and that all those found responsible for the unruly episode will be dealt with in accordance with the law.

The governor said this during a meeting with NERIST Director Prof Narendranath S at the Lok Bhavan here on Tuesday. During the meeting, the NERIST director briefed the governor on the recent campus incidents and the steps being taken by the institute to restore normalcy and ensure the well-being of students and faculty members.

Expressing deep concern over the unfortunate developments, he said that the academic environment of the NERIST must be preserved at all costs.

“NERIST is one of the premier institutions of higher and technical education in the Northeast, with a distinguished legacy of nurturing scientific temper, innovation, and skilled human resources. Any disruption to the academic atmosphere adversely affects the aspirations and future of young students. The interests of students and the reputation of the institution must remain paramount,” the governor, who is also the president of the NERIST Society, said.

Parnaik said that accountability, discipline, and respect for institutional values are essential for maintaining harmony and ensuring an environment conducive to teaching and learning.

The governor expressed confidence that the NERIST administration, faculty members, students, and stakeholders would work collectively to restore normalcy and uphold the institute’s longstanding tradition of academic excellence and inclusivity.

He urged all concerned to exercise restraint and contribute towards preserving the dignity and reputation of one of the region’s most respected educational institutions.

Guv calls for citizen-centric governance

In a separate meeting with Arunachal Pradesh Administrative Reforms Commission Chairman Pramod Jain, the governor shared his concerns and vision for a more responsive and citizen-centric administration.

The governor stressed the need for reforms in personnel management, capacity building, and institutional functioning.

Underscoring the vital role of the commission in strengthening governance and enhancing public service delivery in the state, the governor said that the commission’s recommendations should focus on promoting greater accountability, ensuring transparency in government functioning, and improving administrative efficiency through meaningful civil service reforms.

He also highlighted the importance of continuous training and skill enhancement of government officials to equip them for emerging governance challenges and evolving public expectations.

The governor said that there is a dire need for proper urban development planning and management to include essential services and upkeep of infrastructure, which would elevate the tourism value of the state.

The governor also advocated adoption of merit-based performance evaluation system to encourage excellence, professionalism, and integrity in public service. He emphasised that modernisation of the civil services, supported by technology-driven governance and streamlined administrative processes, besides technology adoption and better financial planning and management, are essential for delivering efficient, transparent, and people-oriented services.

Reiterating his commitment to good governance, the governor expressed confidence that the commission’s recommendations would contribute significantly towards building a more accountable, efficient, and citizen-focused administrative framework in Arunachal Pradesh, aligned with the aspirations of the people and the vision of a developed and self-reliant state.
