TAWANG, 8 Jun: Young and adolescent students were sensitised to gender equality, mental health, the importance of education, and other critical issues during a career counselling and training programme held under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiative at the GHSS here on Monday.
Tawang ADC Rinchin Leta said that education remains the foremost responsibility of every student. He encouraged the students to embrace the values of the three Ds -dedication, discipline and determination – as guiding principles for achieving success and becoming responsible citizens.
Kyidphel AC Sange Norbu highlighted the dangers posed by single-use plastics and their impact on marine ecosystems, water resources, soil health and agricultural productivity. He asked students to become champions of environmental protection and actively promote sustainable practices.
SP Tasi Darang sensitised the students to the harmful effects of drug abuse, and explained the important provisions of the NDPS Act and the POCSO Act, besides and good touch and bad touch.
He also highlighted key aspects of the Motor Vehicles Act, emphasising on road safety, legal driving age, drink-and-drive offences, pedestrian rights, and provisions under the new criminal laws.
The programme also featured expert sessions by Tenzin Dolma, clinical psychologist at KDS District Hospital, which covered mental health and emotional wellbeing among adolescents.
Lobsang Youton, psychologist at KDS District Hospital, conducted an awareness session on drug addiction and its far-reaching consequences.
NABARD district development consultant Kritika Kashyab sensitised the students to skill development opportunities and financial literacy, highlighting the importance of informed financial decision-making and career-oriented competencies.
A special session on career opportunities in the armed forces was conducted by Lieutenant Colonel Mini Saxena, education officer, 190 Mountain Brigade, Tawang. The officer provided valuable insights into diverse career avenues in the Indian Army and inspired students to explore opportunities in the defence sector.
Earlier, DDSE Hridar Phuntsok underscored the importance of empowering young minds through awareness, education and skill development.
The programme was organised by the Department of Education, Tawang, in collaboration with the Department of Information and Public Relations, Tawang under its information and publicity programme. (DIPRO)
