The Desert Regional Centre of the Zoological Survey of India has launched a field survey roadmap across Arunachal Pradesh under an NMHS-funded project to assess the distribution, status, and ecological significance of Himalayan wild pollinators, particularly bumblebees.
The initiative seeks to establish long-term monitoring networks in fragile Himalayan ecosystems until 2029.
Following a weeklong consultation with divisional forest officers, the team finalised survey locations at more than 10 sites across six districts, laying the groundwork for systematic biodiversity monitoring and conservation.?
The initiative assumes significance as wild pollinators play a crucial role in maintaining ecological balance and supporting biodiversity. A long-term monitoring system for Himalayan bumblebees will help track changes in their distribution and status across fragile ecosystems, providing scientific data for conservation and management efforts.
