ITANAGAR, 13 Aug: The All Arunachal Pradesh Socially Working Association (AAPSWA) in a representation to the Water Resources Department (WRD) secretary on Thursday sought his intervention for a high-level inquiry into the ongoing Jullang river anti-erosion protection project under the WRD Division, Itanagar-Chimpu.

Expressing serious concern over the execution and quality of work along the Jullang river from DPS Chimpu to Pagatara, the association demanded immediate inquiry into the alleged "absence or inadequate provision of weep holes in retaining walls; non-provision of expansion or panel joints at prescribed intervals; deficiencies in the construction of base slabs and cut-off walls; absence or inadequate execution of launching aprons intended to protect retaining structures from erosion; and scouring and alleged non-installation or insufficient provision of gabion guide structures required for river training and bank protection."

It demanded an independent third-party technical audit and quality assessment. The association further demanded constitution of a high-level inquiry committee to examine the quality and progress of the project, and said that disciplinary and legal action should be initiated against any official or contractor found responsible for lapses in the project's execution.
