DAPORIJO, 7 Sep: The Kodukha Youth Association, along with village elders, senior members and gaon buras, has pledged to protect and preserve the flora and fauna within the jurisdiction of the villages under the Nacho constituency in Upper Subansiri district.

The community initiative was taken after villagers and local youths observed a drastic decline in the population of birds and wild animals in their indigenous areas. Taking the issue seriously, the villagers resolved to collectively safeguard the region's forests, wildlife and other natural resources.

As part of the conservation initiative, prohibitory signboards have been installed at prominent locations in the village to caution both villagers and outsiders against hunting and other activities harmful to wildlife. Fishing nets and other materials used for trapping animals were also publicly destroyed as a symbolic demonstration of the community's commitment to wildlife protection.

The village community has warned that anyone found violating the prohibitory order by engaging in hunting, fishing or trapping of wildlife will face punishment and penalties as decided by the community.

The initiative is aimed at protecting the area's rich biodiversity and preserving nature's gifts -including its forests, birds and wild animals - for future generations.

The villagers and youths have also appealed to neighbouring communities and visitors to respect the community's conservation measures and join hands in protecting the environment.
