NAMSAI, 25 Aug: A total of 100 farmers from Khumali FPO, Gunanagar, Cheringke Baringke Jhumpa FPO, Tezu (Lohit), Wakro-based Lohit Organic FPO, and farmers from Momong and Solungtoo villages of Namsai district attended a 'regional seminar on ginger' organised by the Namsai Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) here on Tuesday, in collaboration with the Spices Board of India's (SBI) divisional office (DO), to promote advanced farming techniques among local farmers.

Addressing the gathering, KVK plant protection scientist Dr Madhumita Sonowal Bora highlighted the significance of scientific ginger cultivation in the district, and mentioned the major diseases and pests and their management.

SBI DO's Senior Field Officer Pritam Chakraborty dwelt on post-harvest management practices, and emphasised the importance of proper cleaning, grading, and storage techniques to ensure better market value and quality retention for ginger produce, as well as the necessity of maintaining standardised packaging to meet export requirements and increase the overall competitiveness of local ginger.

Summer vegetables and seed kits were distributed to the participating farmers during the programme to encourage crop diversification and supplement their income under the IARI component, the KVK informed in a release.
