ITANAGAR, 31 Oct: Taking note of the recent developments concerning the Siang Upper Multipurpose Project (SUMP), the Arunachal Indigenous Tribes Forum (AITF) - a conglomeration of apex federating community-based organisations - has offered a peace initiative to facilitate dialogue among all stakeholders and work towards "restoring trust, peace and normalcy."

In a press release, the AITF stated that it has constituted a seven-member peace committee "to engage with all concerned stakeholders, listen to their grievances and facilitate a constructive and lawful dialogue towards restoring trust, peace and normalcy."

The forum urged all organisations and individuals to extend their cooperation to the peace initiative and give "breathing space for dialogue" to the AITF peace committee, and an opportunity to find a solution "acceptable to all the contending parties."

"Let us resolve our differences through mutual understanding and collective wisdom, keeping view of the larger interests of our people and the state above all considerations," it said.

The AITF also appealed to all to uphold the spirit of brotherhood, mutual respect and peaceful dialogue, and not allow differences of opinion to disturb peace and harmony.
