ZIRO, 5 Aug: Demonstrating that compassion knows no boundaries, the Lower Subansiri district-based motorcycle club, Ziro Royal Enfielders (ZRE), carried out a humanitarian relief mission for flood-affected families in Assam. ZRE donated essential relief materials through the Nazira (Assam)-based Sukafa Riders Motorcycle Club in Sivasagar district.
As part of the mission, a Tata Mobile loaded with relief materials departed from Ziro, while an Isuzu truck and two private vehicles carrying additional materials from Itanagar joined the convoy to Sivasagar, delivering much-needed assistance to communities devastated by the ongoing floods in Assam.
This was the second phase of ZRE’s humanitarian relief drive.
Collection drives were organised on 29 and 30 July in Ziro and Itanagar, where volunteers gathered both new and usable essential items. The donated materials included drinking water, phenyl, sanitary pads, clothing, towels, bed sheets, utensils, footwear, undergarments, and other daily necessities.
Speaking on the initiative, the club’s chief, Nending Ommo, said the campaign was inspired by the overwhelming support Arunachal Pradesh had received from Assam during the recent flash floods in Keyi Panyor.
“When the people of Keyi Panyor were affected by flash floods last month, Ziro Royal Enfielders organised an online donation drive. We were deeply moved that nearly half of the contributions came from generous individuals and motorcycle clubs from Assam. Their solidarity during our difficult time will always be remembered. Today, when our brothers and sisters in Assam are facing one of the worst flood situations, it became our moral responsibility to stand beside them. This relief campaign is a small gesture of gratitude, humanity, and brotherhood,” Ommo said.
Vice chief Hage Duyu emphasised that the riding community transcends geographical and political boundaries. Duyu said, “Through this initiative, we wanted to convey a simple message: the people of Assam are not alone in this difficult time. Arunachal Pradesh stands firmly with them.”
General-in-command Duyu Deilyang said the club deliberately chose to personally deliver the relief materials despite challenging road conditions to reaffirm its solidarity with the flood victims.
“We are immensely grateful to every individual donor and member of the riding fraternity who supported this campaign,” Deilyang said, extending special appreciation to fellow riding clubs, including Royal Arunachal Riders, Mountain Folks, Eastern Hill Riders, Arunachal Riders Consortium, Arunachal Bullet Club, Decent Souls, and Royal Gorkha Riders, for their generous contributions and unwavering support.
The initiative received valuable support from Monroe Phukan, a celebrated lady solo rider from Sivasagar, who guided ZRE throughout the relief campaign. The chief and secretary of Sukafa Riders, David and Sanjay, expressed heartfelt gratitude to Ziro Royal Enfielders for their thoughtful initiative and for strengthening the bond of brotherhood between the riding communities of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam.
